Web Development
The rapid expansion and versatile use of the Internet has opened a new world for business and communications. With the rapid development of new technologies, the Internet today has become a Las Vegas-style display of flashing lights and images. It is in my opinion that less is more, and that is what I attempt to implicate into my web development: text-based web sites with minimal graphics and more information lead the user to better answers and easier results. Although many of my designs are similar in style, my development grows with each one created. Below are descriptions of web site that I have had the pleasure of developing.
Ball State University Fencing Club
The Ball State University Fencing Club is a student-run organization dedicated to the teaching and learning of the Olympic sport of fencing. It is known throughout campus as one of the best sports clubs to meet new and interesting people.
Being a member of the Ball State Fencing Club since the fall of 2001, I took it upon myself to take control of designing and maintaining the club's web site. The newest version, featured here, is the third rendition of the site that I have developed and in my opinion is the best design I have come up with; judging look, feel, functionality, and content. The page features a fencing glossary, list of currently active members, links to various other fencing web sites, a history of fencing section, and links to fencing equipment web sites The graphics were made using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and the template was made using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. The page is coded in ASP.
Farmers Pike Festival
Through the years of helping out at a local arts and crafts festival, I have become part of the family who hosts the event every Labor Day weekend. As part of helping them advance their event, I have been contracted to develop a new, fully interactive web site that will not only please its visitors, but also allow easier access to information for the vendors who wish to purchase space for the upcoming years. A preview of this site can be accessed by clicking the icon.
The original design was hand drawn on a sheet of paper and was digitized using Adobe Photoshop CS3 into a more professional look. The page template was then transferred to Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 where I filled in the information, created the links, and developed an interactive photo gallery. The site is coded using PHP, CSS, and JavaScript.
CAPS Software
County Accounts Payable Solutions (CAPS) software was developed for the city of New Castle, Indiana and I was hired by the company distributing the software to develop a new logo and new look for their web site. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen server attack the new design was lost and the company misplaced the backup CD I supplied them.
I used Photoshop CS3 to create the new logo that is seen at the top of the page, and Adobe Dreamweaver 8 to create the template and CSS pages that handle the links and general layout of the site. The site is coded using PHP and CSS.
ReachIT Worldwide
I was approached by a local company to redevelop a web site that is used to sell web utilities such as hosting, filtering, and co-location. The original site was created by a different developer using Adobe Photoshop CS2. However, the company went under before the new site design could be launched. A preview of this site can be accessed by clicking the icon.
I created the new site using Adobe Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver 8, and Flash 8. Though the page is not yet completed, it is still functional in many aspects. The Flash animation on the main page features a progress bar and was tested to load in under 1 minute using a dial-up modem before being integrated into the site. The entire page is coded in PHP and features an interchangeable features section at the base of the main page.
